, VIC, Australia

Dr Hayley Dickinson is a reproductive physiologist and obtained her PhD from Monash University in 2006. She is currently an NHMRC Biomedical Career Development Research Fellow (2014-2018) at The Ritchie Centre; the research arm of the Monash University Departments of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Monash Newborn and Paediatrics at Monash Medical Centre. Her research is aimed at saving babies lives and reducing the long-term burdens (health, emotional and economic) of major perinatal conditions such as birth asphyxia and IUGR. She has developed numerous models of in utero perturbations (maternal viral and bacterial infection, maternal glucocorticoid excess, IUGR) in the precocial rodent, the spiny mouse, to investigate the developmental origins of health and adult disease hypothesis. Her recent work, in a model of birth asphyxia in the spiny mouse, has shown long-term, multi-organ protection of maternal dietary creatine supplementation for the offspring. She now leads a series of clinical studies aimed at unraveling the role of creatine in pregnancy. To date Hayley has published 44 peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters, supervised 5 PhD students to completion and obtained over $2.1 million in competitive research funding.
